Church of Christ Stuff - For Members of other Congregations |
We get lots of questions from members of other churches, wondering “what kind” of church we are. We have some FAQs here for you who want to know more about us, from a Church of Christ perspective. Mostly this is here because we dislike wasting time discussing these things so we hope you’ll get your answers here and not bother us further. On several occasions Paul encouraged Timothy to help the church avoid foolish controversies, and we seek to adhere to Paul’s admonition. |
Would you be happy here? |
Do you WANT to be a servant? |
No, probably not. People who would be happy at this church are rare. “Liberals” who are willing not to get their way, and “conservatives” who are willing to discover the differences between our church traditions and what the bible teaches are very rare, indeed. And both sides love a good debate - it’s our heritage! (After all, why are YOU still reading this?) Those who will find joy here are those who want to WORK. Those who want to feed the homeless, help care for those in crisis, and who accept personal responsibility to seek and save the lost - these are those who find joy here. |

If you have been looking for a church that trains and equips servants, this is the church for you. · We are helping one another to learn how to personally share our faith daily - at work, in the neighborhood, at the soccer field (not by door-knocking, advertising in the paper, or turning church into a mini-crusade) · We are learning how to help the homeless … · We are learning and gaining counseling and helping skills …
“Lord, make me a servant, make me like You.” This is our song - is it yours? Can you lay aside your agenda and focus on those who are hungry, hurting and/or lost? |

Our Views & Our PRACTICES |
Our views are generally different than our practices. In practice we are mostly traditional: · Lord’s Supper every Sunday · No Praise Team or instrumental music · Three elders (retired*), one preacher, four deacons, one secretary · Single-purpose auditorium · Multiple cups, Sunday School · Preacher teaches necessity of adult immersion, amillennialism, offers invitation
Our beliefs are somewhat different, for our beliefs are individual. We have some who are radical “change agents,” and others who can’t stand it - and pray that change never happens. The preacher is committed to avoid divisive, foolish arguments. He strains to keep our practices within acceptable parameters so as not to offend the traditionalists … but teaches that we do this out of respect - and not because God insists on it. |

* Our elders: In June, 2006 our three elders retired. Two of them had served for nearly three decades, have been retired from their jobs, and had served honorably for our church. They are still members of our congregation, and still very active. We thank them for serving as long as they did.
